Are a EGR valve Delete kit and EGR cooler Delete Kits the same thing or seperate? Should i Delete Both? by reading i have come to understand the EGR system causes a lot of problems in the 6.0L is this true? has any one installed one without removing the intake manifold?
They are the same thing. When you do an EGR delete, you are either
1) removing the EGR cooler and putting a new up-pipe in it's place
or
2) purchasing a EGR cooler that has been welded up to prevent coolant from entering the cooler. This kind of kit is used if you need to pass a visual inspection for emissions.
A lot of people use the Sinister kit, or Bullet Proof Diesel kit. There are a lot of threads and write ups in the forum, do a search and you'll find 'em.
Many keep the EGR in place and plugged in, even though it is not functional. You WILL get a CEL on trucks 05+, but keeping the EGR plugged in makes the fan happy. Read on this thread here about it.
you dont have to remove the intake but its much easier if you do. it takes a whole 10 more mins to remove when your right there. if i were you id go bullet proof egr cooler. i think im about to switch back to it. that way you dont have anything to worry about

I am getting ready to cross this brige as well. why are you going back to a egr cooled system {emisssions,better milage?????}
I am in a area wear emmissions dont matter for the time being
so I could do either deleat or a bulletproof cooler?
being its an 03 not woried about a light either
didnt get better mileage either way. im think about switchin back because i am commercial and its hard for me to get an inspection sticker. i hate the thought of hot exhaust gas and soot in my intake but im also tired of driving around looking to get an inspection sticker at the same time. i will have a better update soon being that im putting one on my brothers truck and i will be able to give more info on both a delete and cooler

They look at that stuff in Erath County for commercial? There's gotta be a place here in town that'll pass it....
i was understanding the delete kit would not trigger codes. am i miss informed?
Depends on the year model of the truck, 03 and 04 it won't. 05 and up it will, P0401 "low EGR flow".
Mine is on right now and that's the code I have (it's an 06). You can't notice any difference in drive-ability, and it actually has a little more "umph" to it down low. You will have to get a tuner in order to turn the EGR valve off through the PCM in order to get rid of the CEL. But, I would still leave it plugged in for fan operation.
