2010 Brakes are touchy
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem with thier 2010 F-150 SuperCrew. The braking is overly aggressive especially at slow speeds. It is most noticable in parking lots when trying to ease into a parking space or just easing up to the curb. I took it back to the dealership and they printed a statement from Ford stating that aggressive brakes are normal and no adjustment should be made. It is annoying to the point my wife does not want to drive the truck. Obviously there have been enough complaints that Ford has a prepared statement.
Any advice?
Otherwise a great driving truck. I test drove two new Sierra SLE Texas Editions and the Ford drove much better. Also the GMC, hesitated everytime you leave from a dead stop.

That is a common problem. I've heard a lot of friends complaining about their wives. Oh, and the brakes, yeah they are touchy at first. I noticed that as they wear in AND you learn how to apply the brakes smoothly, the problem goes away. The tip-in is fairly steep on these brakes. My wife (had her for 18 years, still the oem wife) noticed the brakes too and she put me into the windshield several times when the truck was new to her. She never did that with any other truck. They do stop a lot better than my 2003 F250. The 250's brakes were about as effective as braking on an ES44DC. It took a mile and a half to stop that F250 from 60 mph with both feet firmly inserted into the master cylinder. The 2010 is also the first truck where she didn't say it was "like driving a U-Haul truck" and she actually likes driving it.

The first night that I had my new 2010 I about smacked my wifes head off the pass airbag when I hit the brakes. They are very touchy at low speeds. I really dont mind. I think that part of my problem was that I came from driving a 2500 Diesel ram that you had to PRESS the pedal to stop the truck.

I bought an '11 f350 at the same time my wife bought a '10 f150. She has it figured out. I dont. When I take hers to the car wash the wet brakes grap something aweful. Truck has 11000 on it. I dont think they get better, I think you have to get better. Not what you want to hear, but there is some comfort in knowing youre not the only one. My 350 is more touchy than my 08 was, but not like this....

The 2004-09 brakes would warp by staring at them and folded like a cheap lawn chair under a load. As a result, Ford finally got around to improving the brakes. And that's the thing about better brakes, they may feel touchy in comparison to poor brakes because they're bringing more braking force to the table. But it is okay because you'll quickly become used to the increased braking ability.

well, I never felt that there was anything wrong with the brakes on my '06 but, I will say that I have noticed the difference with the brakes on my '11 and I like it. I'd rather have strong brakes that a bit "touchy" than the alternative and it definitely doesn't bother me (was easy enough to adjust my driving style to the new brakes).

Mine were touchy at low speed when I first got my 2010 - it would just be when I was getting it out of the underground parking space in the morning and seemed to settle down right after that.
I figured the brakes would wear in and/or I'd get used to them - after 4000 miles I don't notice any problem with it now and actually never really thought it was that big of an issue anyway.
Also, I haven't noticed the brakes being grabby in the rain or after washing the truck.
Maybe some of them got different friction material than others - When I did the brakes on my last truck I bought the cheapest shoes I could find for the rear drums and any condensation at all would cause them to lock right up in the morning.

Good post! One year and one month later, mine are still touchy. I actually like them that way. To me, it shows they are pretty sturdy and working good. After a while, I got used to them and am able to drive, and brake, acorrdingly so my coffee doesnt hit the front windshield.

The first time I drove mine, I went to apply the brakes and I almost went into the steering wheel..Haha I've gotten used to it and actually like it now. The first time my wife drove the truck, the first thing she said when I got home was, damn that truck has some strong brakes...lol I just laughed and said, oh yeah, forget to mention that..lol
