I have a 1993 f350 4wd crew cab longbed, and have been experiencing a binding metal clanking noise when I turn tight.
Noise goes away when I straighten out the steering wheel.
First place I took it to said it was my steering box, but after replacing it, the noise is still there. Second shop I took it to, repacked and checked front bearings, replaced top and bottom ball joints on drivers side, repaced spring mounts, checked pittman and tie rod connections, all this along with checking front brake job performed 2 months previous, which included repacement of calipers and pads and resurfacing. All this and the noise is still there ( as it has been for past year)
Any ideas?
If auto, they may be stuck in the unlocked position.
During the winter, when I have my manual hubs lock (in 2wd), I get a 'thump-thump-thump' binding sound when taking tight corners. I believe it is just the wheel u-joints.
this topic is posted every other day, You have to tighten the bolts that hold the trac bar in place, WAY tighter than you think, use a 3 foot breaker bar or larger and tighten them by hand(tighter than an air gun can) And get them soooo tight, the noise will be gone i promise.
trouble shooting this issue i too did alot of things, i almost replaced my steering box, I did weld all the brackets to frame and axel, then in the end..... people on this board just said go tighter on those bolts, and it worked
