EGR Valve Replacement
There's no point in removing the EGR system, because even if you were able to nail the timing curve and combustion mix, the engine will at best only run as good as it did with a properly functioning EGR system. It's essentially doing a bunch of extra work to put you where you already are.
The smog pump is unrelated, and there shouldn't be any problems with removing that.
.......Now that I have read every thread having anything to do with EGR valves, I understand how they can contribute to performance issues. What I dont understand is which part number I am supposed to use to replace it. The oem egr is long gone. Whoever replaced the last one was kind enough to write the oem number on the sticker on the replacement.Problem: The number is for a passenger car.....D80E-9D448-B1A. The "O" should be a "T" for truck right? So was it the right one, or did someone pull it at the jy, and slap it in?
The FSB forum, M-block 351m/400 parts reference section part numbers: D9TE-9D457-C1A
D9TE-9D457-C2A
D9TE-9D457-A1A
D9TE-9D457-A2A
E3UE-9D475-A1A
E3UE-9D475-A2A
None of these match the one in the truck....the plot thickens. Also dont understand 9D475 vs. 9D457 vs. 9D448
.Oreilly auto parts gave me a generic EGR valve with POS written on it. We all know what POS means......It came with about 20 inlet washers, and a list of part numbers which tell you which washer to use. OK, so what part number do I use?
If I go with the D80E-9D448-B1A that was in the truck already, I should use the 262 washer. Problem: it had a 249 washer in it.
Did someone put the 249 washer in the passenger car EGR to make it work in the truck?!?!?!
Anybody know which frickin EGR valve OE stamping number would have been on the original? (78', 351M, AUTO TRANS, CA EMISSIONS). Any guidance would be much appreciated. This sucks.
