I've had my 07 HD F150 into the dealer a few times for this issue and they have not been able to repair it.
When I use the brakes especially at higher speeds you can feel them turning like a warped rotor, sometimes it will make the steering wheel shake. It does it with both my summer tires (22") and my winter tires (17"). Even at slow speeds you can feel it.
The dealer keeps checking and says that the fronts are fine, last time they machined the rear rotors and said it was fixed. To me the fronts look pretty grooved but they keep saying they are fine. Which didn't make sense to me. The truck stops well and has good feel and power but I get this warped rotor feeling.
How many miles on those rotors? Are they the original rotors that came on the truck new?
The factory rotors have been notorious for warping on our trucks. Turning them just fixes it temporarily as it removes a slight bit of material, but removing material also gives less material to dissipate heat, thus the warping comes back quicker most times.
I too have the same issue and will be addressing it this summer hopefully with an upgrade on rotors and pads.
40000 km on them, they are original. Been a problem since 20000 km. The truck does not get driven much but when it does this brake issue makes a nice truck have a bad feel. The dealer keeps telling me that the fronts are not warped... Maybe I'll just go somewhere else.
The vibration only happens when you're braking, correct?
Does the entire truck surge/pulse in rhythm with the vibration when braking?
Do you feel the pulsation in the brake pedal, or just the shaking of the wheel?
Just when braking, and yeah both the steering wheel and brake pedal, you can feel the truck pulse.
Sounds like warped rotors to me. I just changed mine last summer to duralast rotors with akebono pads. So far, so good. I would change them if I were you. Surprising the dealer hasn't recommended it, they usually want to make all the money they can.
My 07 has this problem as well. While the truck was under warranty the dealer turned the front rotors and replaced the pads. It helped for a few thousand miles and then it came back just as bad.
I assumed the front rotors were warped and ordered rotors and pads from Brakingperformance.com. I put those on and I still have the bad vib while braking. So I guess the rear rotors are the problem. Seems kinda strange the rear's are warped...
I'm just gonna drive it till the pads are shot and then replace the rotors.
My front rotors were replaced under warranty at about 32k because of stuck calipers, now the vibration is back (47k). Time for new non-OEM rotors and pads. Really the only thing I don't like about the truck other than the oil filter location.
Look at your rotors. On my bosses 06 model the rotors did the same thing. When I removed the wheels and inspected the brakes I found the front rotors were warped and both of them had bad heat cracks in them. Don't believe the hipe at the parts store either. We ordered Drilled and slotted rotors and installed ceramic pads now after 110,000 the heat cracks are back.Heavy truck too small of brakes. Get used to replacing them regularly.
hmm, maybe I will have to buy some good brakes for it then... On my last truck I put on a set of Napa rotors and their Ceramic pads, they seemed fine but I did not keep the truck too much longer after that to see how they lasted in the long run.
