no headlights

no headlights

i have a 97 explorer the other day i lost both headlights. the high beams only work in the momentary position, but dont in the set position. i still have parking, brake, and dash lights. does anyone know if this is the headlight switch or the multi-function switch?

I would vote for the multi-function switch.

Testing the multi switch is simple enough.

Remove the electrical connector & connect your ohm meter to terminal 196 & 632. The circuit should open/close each time you operate the switch.

For low beams connect to terminal 15 & 13 & operate the switch.

I believe there have been a few others who have found wires/terminals that broke and/or pulled out of the connectors to the multi-function switch as well.

I once had a pulled-out connector. Fixing it was an easy zero-dollar repair.
