I'm sorry if this is posted elsewhere on this site but i did a search and could not find it.
I have a 2006 F250 PSD. There was a wiring harness provided with the truck for hooking up a brake controller which i am trying to do.
My issue is the the description for the factory wire harness leads do not match up with the aftermarket brake controller.
Ford OEM wire harness has four wires
1- Trailer electric brake feed(I assume goes back to the trailer) DBlue
2- Ground(no assumptions needed) W
3- Trailer brake control feed(I assume hook up to battery + on controller) R
4- Stop lamp feed to brake control(I assume to brake pedal stoplight on controller) LGreen
Aftermarket brake controller
1- Battery+(hook up to 3 i think) Black
2- Stoplight(hook up to 4 i think) Red
3- Ground-(hook up to 2 I'm sure) white
4- Brake(Hook up to 1) blue
Any insight would be appreciated. I feel like i am making a simple thing difficult but I hate diving in shallow pools
What Bagpipes said. My experience has been you have to buy the pigtail for your model controller to match Ford's plug.
It sounds to me the harness you have was meant for a different model controller. As far as I know, the truck will come with the plug for a harness, but not the actual harness.
BTW, welcome to the forum. Stick around and be amazed. Some terrific people and info to be found here. Good luck!
Buying ready harness is the option, but those things can cost more than a case of beer for just few wires. The way I see it,
blue goes with blue,
white goes with white
red goes with black
green goes with red.
Another indication is wire size. While power feed to the controller and out to the trailer brakes are heavy wire, the stop light wires are much smaller.
Yeah I agree with Kajtek1 on the wiring.
I have a 2004 f250 that is wired exactly how he explained it. Mine is a tekonsha and I do have the plug for it but it came wired without it.
