Most likely you have the problematic stc fitting. Just look at your hpop cover, if it's aluminum you need to replace it. I like the one piece from bulletproof, comes with tool to install. It's a snap and you get to reseal hpop at the same time.
2005 excursion 6.0, motor is a 2004 build according the the valve cover. How do I know if I have the troublesome STC fitting or the older one? Thanks.
That's a really good question. IIRC the Excursion's had "older" motors put in the newer year models like the early production 04 trucks had 03 motors in them. It might be wise to take the last 8 of your VIN to your dealership and see if they can tell you if your motor requires the updated STC fitting OR if there was a particular production date split like the 04 trucks had at 9/29/03.
I have never seen where the updated fitting came out in ANY original production Ford 6.0L engines. I believe it did on the later Navistar engines, but Ford was slow to switch. Ford tried the bracket for a short while on some 07's IIRC.
