A friend of mine got a Taurus SHO ecoboost. The twin turbo job. That thing is a beast. It is 100% sleeper. We went out for awhile tonight and I was the DD. I have driven allot of fast cars in my life. Several in Germany and the "normal" 351W in the Pinto we I was going up but I have to say that this car is tough. What impressed me was the torque curve. It is rated at like 365 HP and 350 FT LB of torque but what I was impressed with was the power range. When you put it in the "m" position in the trans and paddle shift it that thing launches. 100 MPH in 3rd gear and it was not done at all. Still had more room in 3rd, not counting 4,5,and 6th. He has had it to 145 in 5th and was still climbing quick. We have a couple of good sections of interstate that you have good vision and good road so it is a safe as far as other drivers are concerned. He drove another one that a guy has added some upgrades that puts this thing at like 450hp. Ford built a neat car in this model.
The car is showing that is averaging 21.7. I noticed that tonight. He said he really is getting around that when he drives it. He drives some open road. He did say his wife doesn't get that good. Heavy foot, actually her car. We took it BEFORE she got home.
I don't know how big the tank is but it had 3/4 when we left and came home with 1/2 and we drove at least 100 miles and I cranked on it some, well allot. Don't know stays steady on the drop from full to empty.
The whole idea was to get excelent fuel mileage and the best I've seen in any test was 24.
I actually think the relative savings would be better in a truck or SUV instead of a car and would better fit the "ECO" miniker.
If it was touted as a performance engine and not an economy engine I think it would have been more correctly marketed.
My parents Charger 5.7L Hemi with cylinder deactivation has the equivalent amount of power, 2-more cylinders and gets atleast as good of mileage.
I'm not doggin' it I just think the "ECO" part is misleading. I don't care if they build a 700 HP twin turbo and get 8 MPG personally, more power too them (pun intended). I'd have a turbo or two on everything I own if I could afford it but the motor is not "ECO".
