What's the best "budget" wiring kit ?

Hello from Germany !

I know, we have had this before and I looked thru all postings from day one till today. However, I still wonder if it is OK to get the $200 kit from EZWiring. All others are in the $300 - 450 range. Take that and add the shipping and the custom duty for getting this to Germany is ringing up a pretty heavy bill. I would therefore go the EZ route, but still like to listen to what you say. Who has experience with the EZWiring Kits ?

Thanx ! :-)

:-) Kai, I have done many different kits but not EZwiring yet, however I did help a friend thru his install. He used the all-black kit, but I would never do this! That fancy writing is wiped-out by tape adhesive and other contaminants, then how do you trace a wire? Go with the coloured kit for sure. I think there is nothing wrong with their product, but you must be prepared for some problems. My friend encountered some extra wires in his install and was forced to phone their tech for help. Their advice was right and the car is reliable.

PS: If you want to scratchwire your truck, I can help you do it and save some bucks!

Todd.

Thanx Todd. That sounds promising. Hope to get a few more thoughts from others. Still wonder why there's such a gap in $$$ between the various sources.

Greetings from Germany !

I suppose one more option is to buy just a fuse block. You would then provide all the wiring from the fuse block to each accessory. It will certainly be more work. Quality fuse blocks are almost $100. Good wire is not cheap. It may cost more than I realize to do it this way.

hey Kai, I just purchased a EZ Wiring kit for my 55. I got mine for $175. out of a place called Danny's Rod Shop (In Ohio). Not sure if you know, but they have now switched to the GM Coloring system, and they still have the componant lettering on the wires. I have yet to start wiring mine, but I sure will keep ya posted. I got the 21 Circuit, and it comes with 18 Circuits pre fused and ready to go. More than enough for me

Just thought I'd let ya know

Hello Dewayne & Brian,

... thanx for your thoughts. Yes, I was thinking to do all from scratch and have checked catalogs over here in Germany. However, what I found was anything but exciting. The Fuseblocks are little tiny nothings compared to those I have seen from the various American made units. Hope there's one or two more thoughts / comments.

Brian, keep me posted on your EZWiring. Here's my e-mail: 54f100@gmx.de.

Dewayne, guess your 55 was wired OK, right ?

Thanx again and Greetings from Germany !

:-)

Kai, another option would be to check out Mid Fifty F-100 Parts. They carrya complete wiring harness with decent instructions (including some mods) and the wire is color coded to the original. I purchased one myslef and put it in my 55 f250 with little to no prob. Also the price is great. 165 for the kit. I would reccomend checking them out.

phone: 1-800-252-1956

web: www.midfifty.com

p.s. they have free catalogues too

To answer your question, my 53 has a Haywire brand 14 circuit harness. Excellent quality but it was about $300. My truck is heavily modified. The Mid-fifty kit for $165 sounds like the best deal for a your stocker.

I bought the EZ wiring kit at PF 2002 for something less than $200 from a dealer in Florida who shipped it to me here in Seattle. I'd definately recommend the color coded wires as it's a challenge enough to trace circuits with all of the wires the same color. I found the kit to be complete with fuses, flashers, connectors, etc.

If you need the dealer's name, email me offlist.
