Drag 300

Sorry for being away. Family issues. But over all i like what you all said, and i have been doing research in the mean time. I just wish they had a crossflow head, AJ does not manufacture them anymore. So that is out of the question, Now what is this experiment crossflow head by Ford you mentioned?? for the 300!!!?

From what I've heard it was a factory head that Ford was developing for use in UPS trucks. But it never went into production. So there are only a few known to exist. You'd have better luck finding a Unicorn then finding one of those heads for sale.

well the look starts now. I know a few ex Ford mechanics and designers and they mentioned one but we never went any further than that because i just chuckled a bit. Did they ever put the motor in the UPS trucks themselves? and Do you know of a list of VINs of these heads? If i can find one i would pay prime price for one.
Also i am looking at my motor build now. What size cam would you think is needed? Overall i am looking to make this inline about 350ci when im done rounded off a bit. Guys i have been talking to are just a bit stuck on the cam specs. But over all this motor when we are done will do less than a 5 sec 1/8th. All numbers right now, so we will see when the build starts, i can see it doing a 5.3 no problem without straining or pushing the motor to its MAX!

I think the "UPS Truck" part of the story is an urban legend :-)
What I have heard (and I have no personal knowledge in this matter) is that Ford Engineering developed two types of cast iron crossflow head for the 300 for internal testing purposes. It is not clear to me if the purpose was ultimately to benefit the 300, or if the 300 was just a convenient platform for testing head and port designs in general.
The first version of the head had round exhaust ports. After doing extensive testing on these heads, they modified the patterns and the second version of the head had D-shaped exhaust ports. It is not clear how many of these heads they made, but I have heard numbers in the range of a few dozen.
Ultimately, when the program ended, Ford management told their people "if anyone wants these, take them home, the rest will be melted." So, several of the people involved took some of the heads home, the rest were melted.
In recent years, I have see just ONE of these head come up for sale publicly, and that one looked like it may have had a crack through one exhaust port. These heads are extremely rare and the people who have them are not typically interested in selling them.
