Thanks Ben..Take heart..I'm 72 with one good eye so if I can do it anyone can. I might mention that the instructions from Mid Fifties list measurements from the door inspection hole but it appears they really mean the edge of the reveal in the door panel that the inspection plate fits into. Bill
Bed work is coming along. With the rear tank, the access to the line of strip bolts that run right over the tank is not accessible so I fabed an aluminum angle that lets me get to them. Suppose you could install the wood prior to installing the bed but the exact placement of the tank filler would be tough.
Finally decided on how to do the front tilt hood prop. I 'm using a left over 36"x 3/8" swedged alum tube left over from the sprint car. Equipped with rod ends, it attaches to an existing hinge hole on the cowl and one of the old hinge bolts on the rear hinge hood brace. I really got antsy about holding that big metal sail up down close to the hinge point. Especially during a gust of wind.
The light oak bed wood has been sanded and oiled with Watco clear Danish oil by my wife Roberta. I notched the back cap to fit flush/level with the side flange. Didn't care for the Mid Fifties way although I have used their wood which has no reveal in the back.I'll include a pic on that in the future.
