been having an issue of the same sort I changed the clutch assembly in my truck thanks to all for posting this helped a lot. but the squealing noise is still there gonna change the belt today but wondering if squealing is still there could it be the power steering pulley? note new ac clutch, alternator, and idler any help would be appreciated thanks in advance
make sure you have the correct length of serpentine belt, theres different options, and some brands ,and or models are quieter than others.be careful to not get grease or other contaminates on the new belt.
thanks crop and 1L, I changed the belt yesterday along with wire brushing all pulleys to roughen em up a bit and get the glazing off if any... but still have a squealing noise when it starts up and intermittently at about 1500 rpms weather it is in park or I'm driving and it does get a little quieter once the motor warms up but it still chirps a bit
crop theres about 165000 miles on it now the tensioner spring is solid have to put a 2' pipe on end of 1' ratchet just to get enough leverage to move it. gonna check the alignment with the video 1L234 posted once it warms up a bit here as it's only 45 F here right now tryin to get in there with gloves and a jacket might be a little to tricky for me no need to get hurt..... thank very much soon as I check into it I'll post how it went
My truck started ripping the sides off of belts, and it still took a lot of force to move the tensioner but once it was off it was deffinetly clear that it was bad. So just being tight might not be a deffinet answer that it isn't still going bad.
thanks it's still pretty cold up here rite now will be lookin at it this wknd got a spare tensioner that is good off my 97 gonna put it in this weakend and see if it changes anything hopefully it warms up by then with it bein this cold it squeals way more and louder too...
want to say thanks for all the tips to everyone! changed tensioner and checked the alignment of the pulleys all was good still squealed.... Had to bring it in for ball joints, tie rod, and ends... to get an alignment done.... talked to the mechanic they looked into it as well (they were confused also) narrowed it down to being the fan clutch... pulled it off stopped squealing told them to put it back on I have another one from my old 97 that'll fit gona hopefully change it this wknd if it stops snowin here....
The nice thing bout it now is I know a lot more and quite a bit of future preventative maintenance is already done...
