the answer is i am starting a very high horse power build and want to keep 4x4. the lower i get the truck the better off.
i will be doing a 408 stoker dart engine with twin turbos, blah blah blah. im shooting for street ~600hp and track +800hp. i probably will be making the truck all time 4x4. will have a liberty transmission, blah blah blah
for the off road lift stuffs i have my 96 jeep grand cherokee that sits on 1ton axles and 37" tires.
You're talking about older subaru's right? New ones are all wheel drive I believe. And I've always wondered what happens when they need to hop a rock or log...I think they don't :P 4x4 = off road (to me at least) all wheel drive = blacktop

well, i suppose thats a great debate
but regardless, i imagine that it would help off the line traction with that much torque
but im really no automotive expert
Exactly. I mean, it's not like you can't do it, or that you'll be unhappy with it. After all, it's your truck, do as you please. However, when you say you have a lowered 4x4 you'll get odd looks from some folks I'm afraid i'm one of them.
not sure how far along u got with this... but i went with 3 inch belltech beams with 2 inch belltech drop springs.. also went belltech flip kit and belltech 2 inch shackles.. so all together its a 5/7 drop.. in my opinion the beltech components are made a little better...

This is the look I'm looking for. Do you ever haul much in the bed? In other words, how does the lowering affect the usability as a truck?

That is an accurate statement! I lowered my 2002 Sport Trac 4x4 by 2". Looks better with stock wheels, handles MUCH better, 4x4-Lo makes up for lack of power when a short pull is called for and still keeps me from getting stuck in those "oh crap" situations. It sees very little off-road use and almost no mud (oh gawd no!) Yes, people will look at you like you're crazy ...... but I resemble that remark so no surprise!
I WILL have to say though that my 86 with the quad-shock/sway bar/off-road package handled awesomely.
Mr. nintey4f150, that I like ........ for a 4x2.
Mr. bigred1992, i had a 1995 that was the twin to yours.
No, I'm NOT lowering my F150 4x4, too difficult. But I would if I could. I don't like frame draggers but a superior handling vehicle, car or truck, is right up my alley!
i dont haul all that much but i have hauled some heavy loads here an there and it still drives and handles fine... the frame is c-notch so it doesnt really bottom out
