Lowering Kit Results
New to the F150 scene.
Bought a '93 Flare-side. One of the first things is to improve suspension and to lower it. Will the Lightning suspension parts fit on my '93? Will call Summit tech support Monday about their lowering kits. Any additional info or experience with suspension will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the help. I have built Mustangs, so some of the f150 terminology is new to me. Like axle flip. Please explain.
Thanks for letting me know Lightning parts can be exchanged with the 150.
I was looking at Summit's suspension kits. The DJM KS3000-3-5 Kit. It lowers the front by 3" and rear by 5". The Beltech Sport Trucks Lowering Kit 921ND.
The Belltech is $730 (about 130 more then the DJM kit) but looks stronger. Even has replacement springs. Calling Summit tech support to find out if either fits my 150.
But anyway, thanks for all the info....Gaye'

An axle flip is when you take the rear axle from the bottom of the leaf springs and place it on top of the leaf springs. The components for the rear flip is called a "flip kit". The kit usually consist of two u-shaped brackets that are placed under the spring perches and are the new spring perches at the bottom of the axle. The brackets also place the axle at the correct angle with respect to the drive shaft.
The flip kit is designed to provide a 5" drop, whereas the drop shackle and front spring hangar combo only provides a 4" drop. Some owners have commented that a frame notch (C-Notch) is required if you go with the flip kit, just check with the kit manufacturer if they recommend or require the use of a c-notch for a 5" drop.
Can't comment on which of the two kits are best. Hopefully someone who has compared the two will respond.

The Beltech kit you posted is a 2/3 drop. It has drop springs.
The DJM kit is 3/5. It has new drop I beams for the front. You will need a C notch with the flip kit though. I didn't have one on my old truck for a while and you only have like 1" before the axle hits the frame without the notch.
stupid question... but do those kits work on 4x4 or 2wd only? i was looking at DJM3000-3/4. i have a 93 flareside 4x4 im getting ready to race out (and keep my 4wd)
i know this is the a dumb question but i cant seem to find anybody that mentioned they did it on a 4x4. also i would like to see the installation instructions
thanks
-sorry for the hi-jack, this q doesn't warrent a new thread

To my knowledge there is no real way to lower the front of 4x4 with a TTB under it. You could put the 2" lowering shackles on a 4x4 to lower the rear end to match the front though. You could cut the stock springs down to lower the front end if you wanted to, but what that would do to alignment, I don't know... Probably mess it all up since it's a TTB
