When my now 15 year old son was just a 'tike', the first firearm he fired was an inexpensive Ruger 10/22 that I had bought at K-Mart, for $99.00!!!
(I've only seen two other 10/22s like this one!)
I actually bought all three that K-Mart had (and selling on clearance) for my Hunter Safety Team to use.
I kept one of them. Brad now claims it as his!!
(So, being the 'prepared' Dad that I am. . . I bought a replacement, but this one has wood furniture!!)
One of them is eventually going to have a Fajen (Boyd's) 'Silhouette' nutmeg laminate stock, and a heavyweight 16"-18" barrel, along with a nice scope sitting on top of Leupold mount and rings.
You could spring for the new 10/22 thats silenced , only 1300.00 , seen one today at the gun shop , its nice , the silencer is fully serviceable....Lew
Sorry, pet peeve of mine. A "silencer" implies that there is zero noise, which is simply not possible with a firearm. "Silencer" is just a bad term propagated by the Hollywood that used to have police clearing a house with revolvers held vertical in front of their faces. You'll notice that the article you linked on Wikipedia mostly uses the term 'suppressor'.
Now, if you want to put a 'clip' in a rifle, that I don't have as much of a problem with...
Yeah clip , mag , magazine and suppressor , silencer , can ...hey theres alot of names for them , i used the term silence , thats what ruger calles it , but we get suppressors from advanced armament , but yeah there all the same thing.....Lew
I have a Marlin 39A & a Remington 550 auto. I'd like a 10/22 to carry around in my truck. Its small size would make it better to hide. My next rimfire will be a 17hmr Savage bolt.
I'll throw out 1 more. Remington Model 597 in 22 LR.
Do not mistake the .17 reviews for the 22 LR.
Fairly inexpensive, shoots very well and accurate. Semi-auto w/10 rd mag. The early models had a plastic mag that was troublesome at times. Steel mag for the last 8 yrs or so.
I picked up a 597 from a pawn shop a few weeks ago with the nylon stock in very good condition for $100 out the door. Cheap for a 22 to haul around in the pickup a lot and the nylon stock will take the abuse of the grandkids.
I think you would be served just as well or better by a Ruger 10/22........same price range, and a world of aftermarket support and accessories, if you decide to use it for more plinking or target fun.
