I've been shooting remington 700's since i started hunting, but something about the brownings make me want to get rid of one of my model 700's for a browning a-bolt.Has anybody had a little trigger time behind both guns and which one did you like better.I just don't want to regret selling the gun that my grandpa gave me,especially no that he is gone.On the otherhand,my grandpa always said that he'd trade anything for a browning, exept his dog,so i don't think he'd mind.
My first choice would be Remington. All of mine have been incredibly accurate and I've NEVER had a problem with any of them.
Second choice would be a K98k Mauser. Most 'gun guys' will agree that the Mauser action is probably the strongest (and is the most used) type action in the world.
(Hint. . . get a Russian Capture "RC" K98k and re-barrel to any one of several cartridges, i.e. .308 or .30-'06, .243, .270, etc.)
Granted, some would say that is blasphemy to 'bubba' an historic firearm. If I were to build another rifle, I'd go this route.
Or heck, leave it as 7.92 (8mm) and hunt/shoot with it, as is!
Third and last choice would be a Winchester "Pre-'64" Model 70 bolt action.
While I'm faithful to Remington, and tease and harrass some of the guys at my local sportsman's club and call the Model 70 a "Wuh. . . Wuh. . . Win. . awe heck, I can't say that name. . .", the model 70 is one fine looking and shooting rifle.
You will regret it later if you sell Grandpa's gun.... Just put it a good safe and add to the collection! There's no reason you can't have more than one!
keep the remmy, just by all means get yourself an A-bolt you'll love it I have a browning A-bolt in 4 differant cals and love them all. I'm parcel to my 30-06 A-bolt with the BOSS system that thing is a tack driver by large caliber standards. my newest is a 270 short mag , man talk about a great gun it shoots very fast and has a very flat tragectory. just my .02 worth I love my buckmark...
I agree with many above, Do not sell the other gun, no reason to. It will always be a good gun. I have a Browning shotgun but have only used Remingtons for many years. 1100, 11-87. I keep The Browning for good times sake, and because i never get rid of guns, just get a bigger safe as needed.
I have a Browning MKII 30-06 that wos my granddads. I wouldnt take anything for it or my Browning 16 ga. (pre sweet16) that was his. I had rather carry the Remington .270 that he left to my brother (which is in my gun cabinet for safe keeping for him). I used to have a Remington 742 Woods Master 30-06, which some A## Hole stole, it was a lot lighter and a little shorter than my Browning. If I were going to buy a new deer rifle it would probably be a Remington, but, I wouldnt sell my Brownings either and I still enloy shooting them.
I have two model 700's, one my dad bought me when I was 14, the other I inherited from my dad when he died. His is a 1969 and I can't believe how much better the quality is over the one he bought me. A few years back I got the bug to get something nicer, I wanted a Browning A-Bolt with the BOSS system, but after checking one out at the store I realized that quality wise, there was no comparison to my dads 69 Model 700 so I never bought a new rifle.
