Hear dogs going nuts (230am)
Wake up to burning rubber smell
Walk outside.....dangit!
Bring big one in to bath
Go chase skunk off, doesn't work
Go inside to dry big dog, hear other dog go nuts
Walk outside to fresh smell....DANGIT!
Bring second dog in to bath
Dry dogs...drink a (5am)
Stay awake, watch TV, relish in the idea of moving and becoming a hermit.
Skunks + porcupines= unhappy dogs and owners.
I have had to deal with the effects of both, no fun at all.
I couldn't imagine having to deal with porcupines!
Found a good remedy for the smell, worked GREAT.
1 cup peroxide
1/2 cup baking soda
Few table spoons of Dawn soap.
Mix, and use immediately. Let it sit on em' for a little bit and rinse. I was AMAZED at how well it worked, took the smell right off.
I bathed them in that mixture, then with just Dawn and let it sit also. After that was done, I bathed them in an oatmeal dog shampoo. No more smell on em', except there is a lingering smell in the house.
Porcupines are not that bad unless the dog has taken a quill in the eye or deep in the nose, then it is a emergency vet visit.
Porcupine quills are hollow and have air inside them, snip off the ends with a wire cutter, they deflate, the barbs relax and you can easily yank with pliers.
Just try holding a 120 lbs Lab down to do it though!
dave porcupines are the worst!!! id rather deal with a skunky dog any day...my dog used to kill porcupines and she usually had quills through her jaw even...those things are nasty!

Ouch, bet it wasn't fun for her pulling those suckers out.
Dogs amaze me at the amount of pain they can endure.
My black and white pit/terrier mix has been kicked, trampled, scraps with strays, so many times she shouldn't be alive right now. Typical woman....
Lets turn this into "my dog shouldn't be alive because....."
lol yeah those time we had to take her into the vet.. she was doberman malamute and wol mix..she was bound and determinded to rig our area of porcupines lol..

Gotta admire determination. That's a hell of a mutt.
she looked just like a black german shepard lol...we had to put her down a few years back she was 14 and had stomach cancer..i havent had a dog since..i loved her too much..but my wife and i are going to get a puppy this year
Sorry to hear that, it's always hard to put a dog down. IMO, it's mostly due to their lack of control and helplessness when it comes to that time. They don't know or understand what is going on (for the most part), and that seems to make it even harder on people, I think. It makes me wish for nothing more than 5 seconds be able to speak their language, and tell them how much they were loved and will be missed.
well in my experience for some reason free dogs normally have wonderful personalities..course i know it can be the other way too lol..but this way i can help out a family or something that needs to give away some puppies..i just want a big dog..my mother inlaw has two little dogs and they dont even fetch!!! i want a dog that can PLAY!!!
My collie used to get sprayed by skunks, tomato juice was a good remedy to kill the effects of the odor.
She also got quilled a couple of times. It didn't take her long to realize that the pain from removing the quills was less severe than the quills in her snout.
Well, dogs got sprayed AGAIN last night...the skunk must of got brave and somehow found it's way into their kennel...and sprayed them IN THEIR DOG HOUSE (I could see all the yellow over spray)
He went too far that time...and the dogs thought so too...
