TCM Code 23
TCM Code 23
Hey everyone, I havent been on in a while and don't know whose still here, Dave S, Dodge/cummins, ect???
Anyway, My boses son inlaw just bought a 91 f-350 with the e40d. He just had the tranny rebuilt because when he bought it the old one was already fried.
Now it just shifts hard in only a few gears.
He has code 23 and says it shifts really early and they said they have tried to set the TPS. His question to me was why is he showing 8.5v out of the tcm to the tps when it should be 5v.
So I checked it with my truck and I have exactyly 5v going to the TPS and 1.4 out of the tps and full throttle 4.5v. His are higher.
Could this indicate a bad tcm because the voltage it not regulated properly or do these voltages vary from year to year???
If yall don't mind helping me out on this, that would be great.
Thanks ahead of time and have a great day!!!!

Hey, welcome back!
8.5V is really strange. 5V is all it should be putting out and anything over 5V at the TPS will send the PCM into a fit. My bet is it might be the PCM itself since thats where the power gets cut down to sensor voltage.
Dave and Dodge are still here along with a lot of the other 'good ol boys'.

My inital thought when reading the thread title was..."lemme grab my IDI computer deciphering tool and associated 885 page manual"
Yep, the deciphering tool is my 5 senses and the manual is the forum!
Sorry, I don't know much about the new trucks with the E4OD's...but David is an expert with them!

Well, thats cool that most yall are still here and still have the sense of humer. (AWSOME!!!)
Whats up joe, David and blue ovel bud!!
Shoot, I bought a 07 dodge 3500 mega cab cummins over a year ago, finally sold it so Im back where I was. I was starting to miss this place, Just glad i didn't get rid of the idi. I kinda like my old truck better anyway. And with these fuel prices, at least the old trucks paid for.
Well, on the tcm issue. they checked another 91 and it showed 8.somthing volts as well. He said it shifts through all the gears just very hard. I told him he may try to adjust the tps up. HE HAD IT 1.1 idle and 4.2 fuill throttle!! I think the TCM thought he was barly giving it any pedal. I told him to turn up the tps some and see if that doesn't soften up the shifts and make it run better. He said it would be in 4th gear with the convert locked at full throttle by the time he reached 35mph.. Well see what happens, If not, im sugesting another tcm.
Well Ill be back, kinda runnin short on time, like always, so I can catch up.
I like the TURBO MANAGMENT COMPUTUER!!
Hey dave, Do the crickets still sing to you all the time?
Later.
