Pre Purchase Inspection

Pre Purchase Inspection
I am about to go look at my first diesel. It is a 2001 F350 Crewcab 4x4 Longbed with the 7.3L and a auto trans. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
<o></o>
The owner said he was meticulous with the oil and fluid changes ("serviced every 3000-4000 miles, trans filter and fluid every 15,000 miles"). <o></o>
<o></o>
It has 191000 and he noted that he has never replaced anything except fluids. He said he has owned it since 2002 and bought from a friend with 8K on the odometer.<o></o>
<o></o>
I am a little skeptical since that means that something should be breaking at this point with those miles. I know that these engines are capable of that, but what about the drivetrain?<o></o>
<o></o>
I would like to take it to a local dealer, but wanted to ask the experts here what I should be looking for. It really is a decent looking truck that an older gentleman used to travel with a camper that slide into the bed.<o></o>

Big Al,
This helps alot. However, I would also like peoples 'gut-feel' for a vehicle like this. I have a 97 F350 now and spent a few years and some shiny pennies getting it into peak operational conditional (aka: replacing everything). I kinda dont want to go down that path, at least not immediately.
Thanks all!

Other than the major issues of either a trans or motor, everything else, or even those we can walk you through and genuinely try to save you money. Thats why this site is so popular and great, we all try to help each other. There are some true experts that have tried many different ways, and all you see is how much everyone tries to help out. Me I would not shy away from the mileage or the sound of the truck if it is priced where you like it.
