I am the one that came up with the screw fix. This has been installed for almost 6 years and it hasn't rusted or popped loose yet. Use a stainless steel screw and it won't rust. This is the easiest, cheapest, fastest fix I have seen. My cowl does still rattle against the windshield.... I plan on removing it and placing a bead of silicone on the back side and then re-installing. This should solve that issue also. When I do this, I will take pictures and post them.
I just went out and tried a simple fix. I removed the entire cowl and found that Ford has installed a rubber weatherstrip under the cowl where it meets the windshield. It was slid down away from the edge and the cowl was rubbing the glass. The weatherstrip was also a little deteriorated. I removed all of the old weatherstrip and installed a new piece that actually has adhesive on both sides.
I re-installed it and then pulled the protective cover off the adhesive and stuck it to the glass. I have yet to take it for a ride to see if that solved the issue. I will post back when I find out.
Ok.... I think I may have found the fix for the rubbing cowl..... I will know more tomorrow. I will tell you that I have had the truck up to 70MPH and approximately 98% of the rattling is gone!
6 months after I bought my truck the cowl popped up.I took it to my local Ford dealer and they fixed it.Thats been over 3-1/2 years ago and it is still in place!

Consider yourself lucky! WHEN it does pop loose, put the screw in it.
