I swear, the marketing guru's must love the hype that people are willing to believe in.
If you are really interested in an ignition upgrade, then get a hotter coil, good wires to carry the spark, gap your plugs accordingly, and fine tune your ignition curve. There, an upgrade that will actually do something.
If you are building race engines, then you are in the wrong forum.
The original reason I started this thread was to replace the wires for the ignition system. I guess upgrade was the wrong word. The wires are stripped, burned, and/or go to no where. I go to some remote places and feel like this is a ticking time bomb. That could potentialy leave me stranded. I'm not so much worried about the money I have plenty of that. I love the truck and don't want to get rid of it. I am just trying to catch a problem before it turned into a big one. Thanks and by the way is the big box under the driver seat for Cal emissions like someone had posted before?

That's fair, and I agree with cadunkle. Spend your time repairing the wiring. Get new harness loom, fix the connectors, and "upgrade" where it'll do you some good.
A 6AL box is great if you CAN utilize it's potential, but in most cases it's just money spent that could of been used elsewhere where it would of made better sense for a DD truck.
I've learned that since I've been a member of FTE. I'm also learning the importance of fully understanding the stock systems. Sometimes upgrading makes sense, sometimes it's better to fix what's already there.
I've made those mistakes in the past, and will probably do it again, but I'm getting smarter at it and I'm not quite as gullible to the hype as I once was.
For the record, Performance Distributors DO make a fine line of replacement upgraded units. That's a good place to start if you truly want to replace the system you have now. Stay away from the $150.00 HEI drop-ins. You can do better than that.
Ok guys I am lost I did something bad... Sorry to bring up this old post I started fixing the wires and I pulled then distributor out to fix the wires. And did mark anything like a dumby. Its back in now and the truck doesn't start. I found out from inside my hood I have the ford EEC III. Is this different from dura spark II? The book is confusing on how to retime this system. Can someone please give me a step by step guide on how to get this thing retimed from scratch. Thanks
