Barn Door Storage Bins?

I was reading on another forum (albeit a forum far inferior to this one) about people converting the inside of their rear barn doors to storage bins. Anybody have any information on this? Seems like a great idea to utilize some wasted space. You would think the Ex would have all the space anybody could need, but pack up 6 people and all of their gear for a 2 week, cross Continent trip, and the more nooks and crannies, the better!

nearest i can find but it looks like they just replace the panels there already , and not actually use the space behind.

Way too much $$$ for my budget, I would think it would be cheaper to build your own, and make them to recess into the door as to not take up any cargo room. Just my 2 cents

they make all sorts of nice access doors for boats. I thought about using this and painting it with plastic paint to match.

Yeah, I was thinking it would make way more sense to recess them into the doors as they are hollow. Would be a great spot for a small emergency tool kit, some diesel kleen, etc. May have to just build them.

Hmmm,
yes, agree hard to run out of space in our biggee

Crazy, of all the options I've seen, that is probably one of the neatest to use a boat or rv "door"...

but we might consider :
there might be extra noise from the loss of the carpeted covering

if loaded, the weight on your door hinges might be too much for the hinges designed for very light fiberglass doors and sag....

dunno if that's an issue...

That's a good point on the weight rating on the hinges.

The bar is a cool idea. I wonder if it falls under the open alcoholic container law in NJ?
