I can assure you i wont be wondering about my doors. Its not steel so its not gonna bend or sag. If I felt it wasnt strong enough I wouldnt have done it. Either way using the door to stash stuff isnt gonna hurt it. The door also has guide pins at the bottom which keeps it sturdy when its closed so if it can handle me then i dont see a problem adding a few lbs of stuff in it.
Steel is stronger than fiberglass, they probably used it for the lightweight cause the doors would have been a problem if they were heavier, also the hinges must have to be mounted somehow fiberglass to steel at some point and that in itself is the weak link,my excursion is a proud investment to me and I just take care of it ,don't mean to make waves.
yes, do what you want with your vehicle. Some of us wouldn't do that and cringe at the thought of standing on a open barn door but we have our own vehicles to take care of. Stand on your doors all you want, we won't care.
this is not about whether or not you should be standing on the doors. its about will the door hold a few lbs of stuff inside for storage. i think i proved my point.
People have mounted sub boxes in the doors and no one questioned the weight then. Subs are heavy. And Ford made bins to attach to the doors, so putting a storage bin in the door will not hurt it.
To each their own! I personally like the idea.
When I first read this thread, I thought about making my own storage. I was thinking using small plastic medicine cabinets because they are not that deep. I looked at Lowe's and Home Depot, but couldn't find one small enough, so I gave up.
Well I like this idea. I used to carry mt spare nik naks in the spare tire under the cover and now have a sub in there and need a storage space. I am going to look for some latch covers and I have some left over fiberglass from my sub box so I will look into making some. Might be a bit as I just went back to work, plus the weather needs to warm up so I can build these right in the doors, plus I will need some time to find some hinged door covers. Thanks for the ideas so far, and I will keep you posted.
Great ideas... You got me thinking about the plastic storage bins
@ Target/Walmart etc. they have tons of sizes/shapes might be
just the ticket - I might stop by tonight.
