Was delivering my plowing bills and my son was in the van for 10 mins with the radio on. Came out to go and no turn over...
So I got it jumped and was watching the charge gauge. Up down and all over the place. Pulled the alt. It was a bad slip ring on the rotor where the brushes travel...so I paid 14 bucks for new bearings slip ring and brush holder assembly and rebuilt it and now she's back to charging. The copper was gone on the slip ring...Had to unsolder the bridge cause the stator was stuck. Common prob. Should last quite a while now..What a budget fix huh..I lied add tax to the 14..
Good fix, especially on a budget and short notice. I replace my alts with higher output 3g models though, longer life, more power. But they are fairly spendy. I probably put more load on the electricals anyway.
they have a new marketing scheme now to sell those $35000+ over priced pieces of plastic.
they're pulling up old dealer sales records and warranty records, using the owners info to send new rig advertising too.
my mail box has been full of the garbage the past few months.
I'm keepin' the old girl just to rub it in union buster Mulallay's face after he destroyed the value of Ford stock.
think I'll lay in a stock of brushes and bearings for the alternator
never know, one of these Aeros may make the 1,000,000 mile mark
That van has 160k on it and the alt has been apart B4... One of these days I'll snap a pic of my green mint awd ext 96 so all can drool.. I still do LOL. How often do you find one that looks new in and out.

Up here in BC, Canada where the rust attacks, but is slow, there are plenty of good looking Aerostars out here in fine shape. If I actually fixed the small rust spot in the lower passenger side rocker, mine would fit that description too.
No I mean new...scarey new. no spots on seats or carpet new. Under the hood new look.
No rust underneath. paint almost perfect. In heated garage taken on trips in summer only.
