Assuming your fix didn't make you need a longer cable, you just have to pull hard on the brake cables to snap it in place. I had a bad cable and had the same problem replacing it. You may have to enlist some help, so one person can pull on the brake while the other snaps it in.

I assume you do have the pedal released.

On '92-96, there's an auto-tensioner built into the brake pedal that's supposed to reset every time the pedal is fully released, but I'm not sure how it works. Try pulling the pedal hard up and then pull the cable out under the truck.

On some 92-94 trucks there was a recall on the park brake pedal. The fix involved putting a locking wedge in the ratchet assembly on the pedal. It made it so it didn't automatically adjust anymore. If this was done to your truck you wont be able to just pull the cable out under the truck. You have to remove the locking wedge first. If I remember right the wedge is a white (I think) piece about an inch or inch and a half long and fits in between the teeth on the ratchet in the pedal assembly.

Yup you should be able to get the wedge back in. Pay close attention to how it goes in, maybe mark where it goes so you get it back in the exact same spot.
