parking brake cable

Exclamation parking brake cable

im replacing my forward parking cable on my 1997 f150 v6 manual trans, the end attached to the pedal. i cant get a straight shot on the bolts under the dash to pull the assembly out to replace the cable. im using a chilton repair manual. ive tried taking my dash off to get the fuse box out of the way. can ne one help me there has to be an easier way.

You are pretty much gonna have to pull the fuse box,, it isnt too bad to get out,, the plugs on the GEM module can be a pain in the ***. But the sad reality is if you want to get the Park brake contoller out that is what has to be done

how did you attach the new cable to the pedal assembly? and get the old one off?

Putting a new cable in an old unit is a pain in the ***, most of the time when i replace them i am installing a new controller and cable so it goes in as one unit. If i remember right you have to wind it and set a pin in it and then you can attach the new cable. The new units come pre wound and after you hook up all the cables you pull the pin.

does it come apart? i think i may have done it wrong not sure. now im thinking the assmebly may be broken. like a spring or something.

yeah its not supposed to come apart, but it is pretty common for the springs to break inside of them
