I tried to do some research before asking but couldnt find the answer so I either didnt do a good enough job or just couldnt find it. Ok here is my theory and question. I was reading the book on doing a trans fuild change. Drop pan, drain fluid change filter. got it then it says to remove bolt from converter. Drain and put new drain bolt in. Got it. But heres what has me scracthing my head if i pour the new fuild in the filler tube is it going to get into the converter. I always heard that you dont want to start or run a truck. I mean run it not drive it with out fluid in the converter because it can burn it up fast. Please shed some light on this for me.. Thanks
I had this same issue with my F150 and got a great answer.
After the change, put in 5 quarts of fluid. Start the engine for 30 seconds and shut it down. This will pump the fluid into the converter. Put in 5 more quarts, start the truck and run it for a few minutes. Add single quarts 'til it shows on the dipstick. Start the truck and drive it around a bit to warm up the tranny. Once it's up to temperature, park it on a level surface and top it off.
