Hello, this is my first post and want to say before I start my post that I have learned many things about my F250 7.3 from readying all of your comments. Now for my problem.
I have a 2001 F250 superduty with the 7.3 engin. I bought the trucks three weeks ago with 146000 miles on it. (gave $16,600 for it) Everything has being work find until today when I put the transmission into drive I got no response. I shifted back and forth several times (three) before I it would engage into gear. What is this telling me (bad transmission major problem)??? I know that the dealer change the oil (rotell 15,40w) and filter (motorcraft) but know nothing about the transmission fuild. I want to change all fuilds soon but will most likely wait until I need to change the oil again (3000 miles)

It might just need a simple adjustment to the shift lever linkage that runs down to a large switch on the drivers side of the tranny case. This switch is positioned by the shift lever cable, and sends a signal that tells the PCM what gear has been selected. Or possibly the switch contacts are dirty or going bad.
