Need help guys, so here is my problem. Over the weekend I hit a branch and broke the valve stem in my front left tire. I put my spare tire on and had the original tire and wheel repaired today and put back on my truck. When I put the spare on, the TPMS warning light came on. Once I had my original tire and wheel put back on, the sensor turned off. I parked the truck for a couple of hours and then drove approximately 2 miles and the light cam back on. I have checked the pressure in all tires and all checked out good. I have thought about it for a little bit and got to wondering if the bottom part of the valve stem could have fallen inside the tire from the wheel and the shop didnt remove it. If so could this damage the sensor while driving? Im not sure what to do or try next. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? BTW my truck is a 2009 F350.
Can't recall, are the '09's using bands or valve stem sensors? I'm thinking bands but I don't see how the bottom part of the valve stem could damage it but it does sound like the sensor is damaged from something.
According to the owners manual it is a band mounted to the wheel opposite from the valve stem. Checked the pressure this morning and it has lost a couple pounds over night. I'm thinking the valve stem didn't seat correctly. Taking it back to the tire shop this afternoon. Hopefully they will get it figured out.
Well I took it back to the tire shop yesterday and had them take the tire off the wheel and visusally inspect the sensor. All seemed fine. Checked all tire pressures again including the spare and the Light is still on. I'm going to take it to Tire Kingdom tomorrow to have them calibrate the sensors. The owners manual gives a step by step process on how to calibrate them but it requires tool that I dont have. Hopefully TK can fix it without having to take it to my local Ford Dealer. The local dealership here in town is an absolute joke and I only go there as my LAST resort. I will keep you updated.
Problem solved. I took it to Tire Kingdom this afternoon and had them recalibrate the sensors. It took about 5 minutes and they didn't charge me. Much happier now that my truck doesnt ding at me and have the tire light lit up. Thanks for your input smotrs.
Glad you got it worked out. Sounds like they may have put the sensors in without paying attention to which tire location they came out of. So the vehicle was expecting the sensors to be in certain tires with a certain PSI and they were in different tires with a different PSI.
