O2 Sensor System Not Reading

My truck needs to be inspected which here in North Texas means an emissions test and computer scan. When I plugged my code reader in it didn't bring up any codes but it showed that the O2 sensor system has not run its full system test. I know this can happen if the battery has been disconnected recently and before I bought the truck it had a battery replaced, but I've put almost 1000 miles on the truck since I purchased it 2 weeks ago so I know it has had enough time/miles to run it's test.

What could be causing the truck not to run it's full set of tests? I did notice that the truck only has one O2 sensor on it (pre-cat) instead of the four that I thought it would have. Is this normal and if not could this be causing the system not to run a full test?

The last time the PCM was reset in my truck it took almost a month and approx 1000 miles before the tests were complete.

There's a procedure to speed the testing up. I'll see I can find the write up.

jd1083,

I found the document, but it won't let me post it in its entirty here. I keep getting a message telling me too many images and html etc,,,.
If I clean it up to post it here it loses its formatting which in turn ruins it for printing.

Send me an E-Mail or private message through FTE and I will send it off to you.

I see you don't have many posts here yet, but I'm hoping it will let you contact me anyways.

Rick...

I thought I read somewhere that our trucks because they are OBD 1 and not 2 ,that the o2 circuits are different so when getting inspected you have to tell them that the truck is over 8500 GVW and that changes the catagory the truck fails into.

Bigpipes,

Apparently some are non OBDII and some are. That has been a topic here in the past. I have confirmed my '02 which is originally from Palm Springs with a cat and second O2 sensor (post cat) is OBDII certified.

Rick...

Take a look on the underside your hood near the latch. It should let you know if your truck is OBDII certified or not.

Well I looked on my tag and my truck doesn't have the OBD II certified on it. In fact the wording is completely different from yours Rick so I guess I'll just have to see if mine might be exempt. And I couldn't send you a private message Rick, the site wouldn't let me.

My truck is a 2003 f250 and on the passenger side of the engine is a tag that says my truck is OBD 1 , so you could look there to.

I looked at all the tags on the truck (under hood, door panels, etc.) and on none of them did I find an OBD II or I certified on them. The tag that looks like the one in the picture is on the underside of the hood and it says pretty much the same as yours BigPipes except it doesn't mention OBD I or II.

Thanks for the links Rick, I'll read through them shortly. BigPipes the tag on the passenger side valve cover on my truck is pretty faded but from what I can make out it still doesn't show any OBD markings. I'll look again in the morning to make sure.

Here's a thread I jumped into a couple of years ago regarding OBDI and OBDII compliant Super Duties. I remembered it earlier, but it was a bugger to find for some reason.

I think it might offer you some more help (Click Here)

Take your time and read through it all. There's also some info there that might help with your inspection requirements.
