i'm taking out my 4 speed transmission and can't seem to figure out how you would remove the shifter shaft from the trans took couple pics does it disconnect if you take these pins out 1 on each side? can't get them to come out tried turning and pulling with vise grips with no luck.
DO NOT remove the pins.all you have to do is push down on the round keeper that is on the bottom of the shifter.it turns to the left as you are pushing down on it.the pins are what it locks into.
I went out and tried it and it worked I would have never guessed how this came off lucky I didn't get rough with the pins just alittle twist and pull figured there was a trick to it so asked before I damaged anything thanks for the help
Would this removal instruction apply to a 1952 4-speed?
There are only 2 types that I know of.
One is like above, push down and 1/4 turn CC.
The other you unscrew CC. The cap I think has flats on the sides where you can put large channel locks to unscrew.
I don't know what type you have, maybe post up a picture so we can tell for sure.
