Since the thread seems to have lost it's original luster, let me ask a related question. My 2003 F350 has gone about 10K miles since I put in a brand new air filter. I did a long trip a few weeks ago with a heavy trailer through the VA mountains. After i got home I noticed the filter minder was buried all the way to the end (like the filter was clogged). But, the truck ran fine with no other symptoms. I don't know when it closed up because i had forgotten to plug the little connector back in so the dash light never came on. I reset the yellow button and drove it around without the trailer for a few days and the minder has not moved at all towards showing any restriction. Is it possible it got pulled in momentarily when the motor downshifted and the turbo spun up? Is it possible the minder is weak?
Given all the miles people seem to get from the air filters it seems odd mine would be plugged at 10K miles. What do you think?

I think that if the filter minder doesn't move to the plugged position again after you reset it then either the filter is OK or the filter minder is broken.
Can you find a vacuum gauge to put in manifold to see what the filter restriction is? Does the filter minder have any marks on it to show the maximum restriction?
No .... just personal preference. I am like loubell, I would change it out before it gets to 25% (halfway sounds as good as any), but that is just me. Mine is over 50k miles and still not there - I feel I have gotten my money's worth and will have no regrets when the time comes.
Make sure you get the blue synthetic media - it is more water resistant and will not plug nearly as bad as the white media if it gets wet.

Bismic- do you have a max restriction value?
I do have a vacuum gauge so I'll see if I can gin something up to get a measurement at high idle. I could run a hose into the cab I guess and drive around with it to see.

Since Mark doesn't have a measurement I thought I would take my filter minder off and apply a vacuum pump to it. I'll probably not get to it before the weekend.

Curiosity got the better of me and I was out in the dark tonight plugging together the vacuum tester.
The vacuum gauge doesn't start to read until 2 inches Hg but after several tries the filter minder is at 100% by 2 inches Hg which converts to -0.98 PSI.

That does not sound like a lot of negative pressure. Have people reported any issues with the minder closing up under heavy towing? I would think that could happen if 1 psi is enough to pull it in. That turbo can push a lot of air down the motor.
The prime objective of a filter minder is to do just what it claims, and if you pay attention to it you will know that it will progressively indicate increased restriction which is the law of physics when you think about it, so please reset your indicator when you perform routine maintenance and you will know that the thing works or doesn't work
