Just a few things happening- 91 F150 5.8

Got a CEL the other day. Pulled codes today. Here they are as follows, according to FFI.com

KOEO- 111 system pass

CM- 173 HEGO sensor indicates system rich- I only have one o2 sensor and it has less than 5k on it so not sure what to make of this.

KOER
213- SPOUT circuit open. I've had this before and it's gone away on its own. I suspect I will have to chase the circuit and check for breaks in the wires. Perhaps get a brand spankin' new spout connector.

311- Thermactor air system inoperative (right side); my code reader manual defines it as: thermactor air system/fault during engine run self test. No clue where to start.

632- Overdrive cancel switch not changing state [E40D]. For the record I do have an E40D in the truck and I've never seen this code before. I suspect it has to do with my running type F fluid. Yes, I know that's not what I'm supposed to be running, but I didn't know that when I changed the fluid. In the next couple of weeks I will be replacing it with the correct type of fluid. Speaking of which, if you know a good way to purge the tranny cooler, I'm all ears. But if there's any other reason this code would be triggered I'd like to know.

I also need to change the gasket for the rear differential cover. I figure since I'm doing it I might as well fill it up with fresh, clean fluid. It's axle code 18, 3.55 gears. Just wondering what type of fluid I should use for it?

I almost forgot- turn signals are not working. A few weeks ago I replaced the plastic plate in the column that has the hooks on it as the top hook was broken. Since then they haven't worked. The flasher/fuses are good, and the other day I noticed that if I move it manually the tail light will dim. I don't know if the front works, but I'm not getting the dash indicators or hearing any clicking from the flasher when moving the lever manually. I do admit that I didn't unhook the negative bat cable when I was replacing the switch in the column. Any ideas?

That's all folks. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Changing ATF Fluid in a E4OD and 4R100 transmission .: Articles Here is a good article on changing the trans fluid.
I would think code 632 was due to an error during the test but could be wrong.
For axle fluid I would think something like 85w90 gear oil would be fine.
Hopefully someone will give an opinion on the engine codes.

I thank you, sir.

I use an Equus Innova code reader, so unless that's making mistakes, the code is accurate.

The code was Operator induced. The code reader is only reporting what the PCM was sending. For the KOER portion of the tests there is user interaction required.

Oh, right- I forgot. I knew I had to test a few things for the computer but I didn't do it because I couldn't remember what all I had to test. I just wasn't making the connection for the OD cancel switch.

Anyways, does anybody have any further advice on the 173/213/311 codes? Thank you!

Code 173 could be caused by the fuel pressure regulator. Too much pressure or it has a leaking diaphragm which allows fuel to be sucked into the intake via the vacuum hose. Pull the vacuum hose and inspect it/smell it.

Code 213, you really need to ohm out the SPOUT circuit.

Code 311 (Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system inoperative during KOER)

Possible causes:

-- Vacuum hoses leaking, blocked or kinked.

-- AIRB/AIRD valve, AIR pump inoperative.

-- AIRB/AIRD solenoid(s) damaged, blocked.

l Verify proper vacuum line routing in the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system, including vacuum reservoir. Refer to VECI decal.

l Check for kinked or blocked vacuum lines.

l Check for kinked or blocked air hoses.

l Check for disconnected or cracked vacuum lines.

Thanks for all the advice, Real Life Awesome guy!

Seriously tho, I appreciate it. Last time I checked the SPOUT it was good but that was probably close to a year ago now.

The SPOUT itself is just a shorting plug. You need to measure the circuit from start to finish. Seems odd the SPOUT error only happens in KOER....

Use this for reference:
