-- The Dixie Chicks are stirring up controversy with a recent negative comment about President Bush while overseas promoting their current album, Home.
The trio performed a live show in London on Monday (March 10th) night, and Natalie Maines (news) told the crowd, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."
It seems to be the thing to do these days for many actors and music people. Go over to Europe and bash the United States. And the European audiences eat it up and buy more tickets.
IMHO, the ditzy chicks couldn't give a poop about Iraq. They are just trying to cash in on anti-American sentiment. And that disgusts me.
In my opinion the DC's can go back to being waitresses at the Dixie Chicken Shack... the music they play should never be confused with country music. Real country music died in 1962, after having been mortally wounded ten years before. The crap they play these days on "country" radio stations makes me wanna puke. All in all I'm not terribly surprised that these "Ditzy Crossovers" are spewing the "Bad American President Takin' Us To War" spiel. But it's just like their music to me... I don't listen to that, either.
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."
Sounds more like a burn on Texans than an anti-war statement to me. My guess is they'd have no problem with Bush if he was an Okie.
As for saying anything at all, they've got just as much right to use the stage to express their opinion as we all do to spout off on FTE (which is available to anyone in Britain). As for banning their music and boycotting them, (especially on a corporate level) well, do what you feel is right I guess, but it seems pretty hypocritical to defend your 2nd and 5th amendment rights, and punish them for exercising theirs.
Well now I can say I won't ever listen to them again. Not only did they bash my pres they bashed my state and for that matter my home town where the pres is from. Hiss (she says as she lets off steam)

I have never cared for their "music" anyway. I always thought that they couldn't carry a tune in a basket. Just 1 more reason to change the radio station.
