I don't know why they are so popular, I personally can't stand them. I hate their version of the classic Fleetwood mac song they covered. Hype Hype Hype. I feel sorry for the suckers that spent their money on any Dix Chic stuff. Lousy videos too!!
About an hour ago I heard on the radio that the Chicks released an apology to Mr. Bush. They (well Natalie) said that they are afraid of war and hate the Anti-American bull going on over there, and that's why she said it. Now that makes sense does'nt it? I hope this gets them off the radio for good now. I've never liked them, and every time she opens her mouth she gets the other 2 in trouble.
Who cares what they said. If you don't like it don't listen to them. I find it funny how many people on this website get their panties in a bundle when someone criticizes the president. Its not as if they went off and joined the Talaban.....

Hold on there!!!! Think for a minute, like the others said, there's Merle, George Jones, Hank Williams, Jr. (my favorite singer), Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings, and a whole lot more great country music singers. Now as far as today's music, I like Toby Keith, Montgomery Gentry, George Strait, and a few others. I like classic country better than the new stuff and I don't see why some people think old country music is 'whiney' or 'slow'.
I never really liked the Dixie Chicks (big misuse of the word 'Dixie'), they were too 'Yankee' for my tastes in music. In another thread I wrote that they need to change their name. To what? I don't know if they'll recover (not that I want them to!!!).

Geez, I hope you're not suggesting that they call themselves the "Yankee Chicks"! LOL.
Mark 56 and Waxy I also like to beat the beehive. You You have made some very good points. I haven't read all the post But I think I can respond.
We do represent our country oversees, all of us. The fact that the group has spoken out against our president even in a way that may apal a very large group of people, an has not destroyed our government or our society is what speaks so loudly to the rest of the world.
I disagree with most of the posters of this thead This young lady has a right to speak out about her thoughts anywhere on this planet. When she or anyone does it only makes our way of government stronger.
Although I couldn't disagree more with most of what you have posted here Waxy, I do have to give you a hand. Bravo! Quite an impressive debate. Whoda thunk such a debate would occur on a truck related site!!

Ken,
That was one of the most enlightened comments I've ever read on this wonderful site.
Whenever anyone talks how there's no good country like the old days I talk up Junior. Thankfully, he comes thru Denver 2-3 times a year.

Unfortunately my wife doesn't agree... she thinks I'm strange when I listen to him. But.... sigh, she likes the Dixie Chicks.
I like "old style" and "out law" country, occasional rockabilly and rock-n-roll. This new stuff just doesn't do it for me. When I want to listen to country I want country. When I want to listen to rock-n-roll I want rock-n-roll. I don't want a song with a rock-n-roll beat pretending to be country (Nashville seems to think that the slightest twang to a voice makes a song "country")....
There was some pretty good stuff out as late as 10 years ago, maybe even 5 years, with Travis Tritt (reminds me of 70's outlaw country), Randy Travis (he's got a great country voice) and George Straight but it seems that the "new style country" stations have pushed them off the dial. Sadly, Travis Tritt seems to have jumped on the "rock-n-roll country" band-wagon as well. Only time I ever get to hear great country anymore is late at night when the station has their "Crying, Loving or Leaving" request show.
Natalie Maines Apologizes to Bush
Craig Shelburne
03/17/2003
Natalie Maines, of the Dixie Chicks, has apologized to President Bush, regarding a stage comment made during a European tour. On March 10, she told a London audience, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas.”
Maines said in a statement, "As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect. We are currently in Europe and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war. While war may remain a viable option, as a mother, I just want to see every possible alternative exhausted before children and American soldiers' lives are lost. I love my country. I am a proud American."
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
the Dixie Chicks bite the dust
Too little too late -- she already showed her true colors, and they are neither Red, nor White, nor Blue. I am not so blind that I can't see her apology as a pittiful attempt to salvage her career.
Now I'm going to the other thread where you posted this message and cutting & pasting my response there.
