transmission problems

transmission problems
I have a 79 f-150 custom. It has the 4 speed granny trans. I am having a problem with the transmission randomly locking up. I cannot get it to go in gear.
Ive tried
1. wiggling shifter to make sure its not on a bind
2. pumping clutch to make sure it engaged
3. rocking the truck back and forth
nothing seems to work. The truck does this at random. One day its fine, the next day its locked. Doe anyone have any ideas?
