Good Carb Size?

I currently have a Edelbrock 600 cfm 4 bbl carb on my 400. I think I have come to the conclusion that this carb is somehow screwed up. So I am at a point of taking it off and throwing it. I found one on Craigslist that is basically brand new for $150.00 that I was thinking of buying or atleast looking at. What would be the best size carb for this 400? Is 600 cfm about right or should I be looking at bigger? I want to have optimal power and performance. I am of course not racing or anything.

600-650cfm is damn near perfect for these rigs. This is one area where bigger is not always better, and I'd be willing to bet, that mindset attributes to half of all carb problems. There are more precise ways of figuring up the best sized carb (a formula and factoring in volumetric effeciency), but it's been my experience for most dd's and weekend warriors with 351M/400's, that a 6-650cfm carb is about as good as it gets.
