302 tick/rattle/knock
just purchased another ford to add to the fleet, i've searched for the last 3 days for answers on my problem with no results. the truck is an 89 with 302 and aod transmission. the truck drives and works excellent other than when its cold. the engine is rather noisy on startup (mostly sounds like valve noise) with a random rattle or high pitched knock every few seconds. its doesn't make this noise every rotation just randomly throughout warm up. also if you go for a 10-15 minute drive and bring the truck back to an idle it is completely silent. shut the truck off and start it back up and this random rattle/tick is back. i change the oil when i got it ( napa gold oil filter with rotella t6 5w40) i thought maybe i would try another oil seeing as i never ran t6 in anything before so i then changed it back out to another napa gold filter and regular castrol 10w30, still have the same noise.
