Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
My girlfriend's cadillac is apparently eating a lot of oil; and rather than going through the whole warranty nightmare, she ended up trading it in on an 01 wrangler. The thing is very fun to drive, making me want to go get my jeep out of storage, in some guy's yard 5 mins from my place.
Well, last night I went and got my jeep out of storage from the dude I had it at. Amazingly, the jeep and trailer looked intact, I expected my wood covered trailer to be absolute crap by now, but it looks like the day I put it there (with the exception of a dead squirrel stuck to it... ugh). The retread tires on the cherokee held air since august of last year just fine, jeep started up on first try.
Decided not to try and pull the trailer out and instead go around the stuff the guy had stored... I got out with the jeep, in 2wd it wouldn't even get off the trailer, the wet grass/mud was that bad... put it in 4x4, got out just fine, stopped by the excursion.
Went to get the excursion back up the small hill to the entrance/road, and like a newb (my excuse: I had the gf and her kid with me), I drove all slow and got scared of punching it because of the risk of rolling over and sliding all over the place; started going sideways at one point and gave up, went further in to get a running start at the hill... As soon as I had it facing the hill, I got stuck. Brand new BFG all terrains, nada... I tried to shovel it out, nothing.
I figured, let me try to at least get the jeep out so that we have something to go home in if we can't get the excursion out until it dries up (it's been raining for the past few days off and on)... I get in the jeep, waltzed by the X like it was nothing (after spending ~1/2 hour trying to get the thing unstuck).
I called the guy who owned the place to see if he can yank me out, he pulls up an old chevy, with brand new mud tires, same style I had on the jeep... we use a snap strap, and as he's gunning it backwards, and I floor it, he basically does a 90 degree angle around me, tokyo drift style... Gf was sure he was gonna crash into something at that point.
It looked like a dog playing tug of war with a bear
Finally yanked me out, and I felt like an idiot that I hat to stop to get the strap out, only thing going thru my mind was that I'm gonna be stuck again... I had to rock it back and forth from reverse to drive, but I finally got it going in drive, mashed the gas, and finally crawled my way up the hill...
Now I have a perfectly clean jeep with mud tires on it, and an excursion full of mud with slicks...
I can't wait to get home and hook up the pressure washer... I also can't wait to get some mud tires for the GF's wrangler now, that stuff was fun. I think this counts as my first "wheeling" adventure.
Nice story Fosters. At least the Jeep got out easy. lol A lot more weight with the Ex.
I don't know Dave. A new headliner might be worth it...
