Well I got the mess cleaned up and its running back to normal and everything checked out good on it. I guess next time I'll specifically say motorcraft filter, but since he owns a 2004 6.0 I figured he'd already know that. I don't think I over torqued it either because when that top peice broke off I had to get the thread part out of the filter housing, and it came out really easy. You can bet I'll never put that crap in my truck again.
I hear what you are saying, but all 10+ 6.0L forums I am a member of have Techs and experienced 6.0L owners that constantly say "DO NOT RISK USING AFTERMARKET FILTERS".
What more can you do???? I do not think another sticky or more pics will help. You will ALWAYS have people say "Oh, well that is just an isolated case, and I know better than all those biased Ford fanatics ....... ".
and who knows, maybe they do know better than so many others .......
(trouble is, really we are Racor and Donsaldson fanatics)
Frankly I do not believe that using an aftermarket filter guarantees problems. However, I am sure that many people have had issues with them and that using them increases the chances of having issues. Maybe it is poor design while attempting to get around patents, or maybe it is poor quality material or poor quality control while trying to make a "low cost" product. Don't really care when the cost to lower this risk is so small (use OEM style)!
Fair enough, I guess you're right, if people are dead set on doing or not doing something, pictures won't change that. It seems to me that the few extra bucks is worth the piece of mind, cause hell, there's already enough to worry about with the 6.0
