It's not the cost of the parts. It's knowing how to do the tune-up. If you are so mechanically inclined then go for it. Just be sure you know what you are getting yourself into before starting. Getting at those rear plugs can be a hassle for some, disassembling and reassembling the intake manifold can be a hassle for some. This must be considered before attempting to do this. Good Luck!
I did my wifes 02 Escape last July and took me right at 1 hour to change PCVs and plugs. I am not a mechanic but pretty mechanically inclined. I followed the guide on this site and it made it that much easier. I think I spent right around $75 but did oil change air filter pcvs double plat plugs and gaskets.
How about I went to Ford, it will cost $954. They will run a diagnostic test, spark plugs coil pack if needed, rotate tires, and valve cover gaskets and run another diagnostic test. They said they fear the car is not breathing right.
Why is that? However, I only let them do the 1 diagnostic test. BUt decided to take it back to the dealer to fix. That's until my idiot boy-friend who is wayyyy older than me opened his big fat mouth to the dealer and said, "How much of the share cost you'll willing to do?" Keep in mind they already knew I have 30day tags and they already agreed to do the job. So I screamed my head off deep down inside. (some men not at all men make me say the most crucial things)
