My Bronco is badly in need of a tune-up, (running rich, missing, and backfiring) and I thought I'd ask for some advice. I have a 1980 with 351M. It looks like the motor is still making good compression, 126-140 on all cylinders (90k miles). It still has the Duraspark ingition system. I don't want to spend a ton of money as I'm between jobs right now, but I'd like to buy some good parts that are going to work for a while. I thought I should start with a stock set of wires, cap, rotor, plugs and then go from there? I was wondering which plugs I should use as my manual calls for ASF52C, but the parts guys says to use an ASF42C. I believe the 52C is a hotter plug. Would platinum plugs be worth it?
I use my Bronco for light duty hauling, and hunting and fishing. Thanks for the assistance.
run a test on the ignition..get a haynes or chiltons for the resistance and voltage checks; also check all vacuum lines..do the basics till you have more $ to spend on replacing other parts. good luck!
