6.9L Injector Leak

1986 F-250 6.9L Diesel.

Two of my injectors are leaking, rather substantially, at the arrow location. I have no manual for this engine, so I’m requesting some clarification on what I’ve read in previous postson the subject.:

Does this look like just leaking o-rings?

In which case, is all I need to do is remove the top nut to gain access? (and not have to remove the injectors.)

Unlike other descriptions, the return lines between injectors are steel, not hose. Do these have their own o-rings? Or, are these just sleeves over hose lines.

Anything else to anticipate?

TIA, Charlie

Probably to few posts to post an image. The leak is between the top of bottom nut and the bottom of the (cap?) which receives the return lines.

You guessed it its probably the o rings. And the lines are rubber they are just the original lines that got painted with the motor when it was new. You could just replace the o rings or go to the auto parts store and get an injector installation kit that will come with new line caps clamps and o rings because they might start leaking where the lines meet the caps once you disturb them.

Yup, it was the O-Rings; and the return hose is rubber. Replaced only the o-rings; one of the easiest repair jobs I've done in a while!

I got the McMaster-Carr O-Rings mentioned in other posts ($11.49 including postage for 50): McMaster-Carr

While they work, i felt the O-Ring inside diameter was slightly large.

Here's a photo of an injector top without the O-Rings, if it helps anyone visualize what they are about to do:

Hi I have the same problem, but after replacing the caps fuel line and o rings,
i get the same leak as before! One install article i read said use petroleum jelly on the o rings. I just rolled mine all on without any. Also, I cant tell if the leak is coming from under the cap like the OP or if its leaking from the top of the nut where the metal fuel line comes in. Any tricks to this I'm missing?

If you rolled them on, you might have damaged or twisted the o-rings, which will cause them to leak, I would suggest taking a look at them again. Post a picture with where it is leaking and we can better troubleshoot it for you.
