Ok so I just locked my keys in my truck....WHILE ITS RUNNING.. out in the city so no one around with a spare.. luckily I had my tool box unlocked. Here is how I got in;
TOOLS NEEDED; two allen wrenches, two pliers
*step one, slide one allen into the wing window then angle it to hit the button on the lock ****
*step two, slide other allen under the **** so when it spins it will hit the arm on the ****
*step three, grip the ends of allen and pull one so the button gets pressed in, while the other twists and rotates the ****
*step four, open wing window and reach in and pull door lever
*step five, TURN OFF TRUCK AND GET KEYS!!!!
or just broken the wing window. i think i paid $3 for my extra wing window when i realized the third day after buying my truck that my passenger side was plexi glass haha.... im not patient enough of a man to screw with all that. ill break glass and deal with it later
i have a habit of every time i get out of the truck; i unlock the wing window so i can open it and reach in if needed.
at the end of the day or when parked somewhere it needs to be locked,i double check that i locked it (which instinctively reminds me to be sure i have my keys.)
it's such a habit i never forget it either way.
try this.you'll never lock yourself out again.it reminds you to focus on where your keys are,and if the door shuts on you,you had already unlocked the wing out of habit.it works!
id be lost with a new dodge.or uh,i meant '99 up super duty(they look the same,so i forget they're a ford.sorry lol.the point-when ford lost their wing windows. ).
Here is a good one, I locked the keys in my 84 when i first got it(was used to a 99 Ranger with keyless entry XD) I took my leatherman, using the file part. popped the rear glass window latch and opened it up and crawled inside(easist way of getting into these old rigs i think)
I have a door key inside a magnetic box that slides inside one of the bed cross supports. In all the years I've had my truck, I got locked out once with the truck running and forgot all about the spare key.
I had my daughter coming with a spare key when I remembered and was just opening the tuck when she pulled up, still in pj's and slippers hahaha!
I carry two key rings, one with ignition keys, the other with door lock keys. Vehicles keyed with matching keys, one goes on each ring. Dang dogs only ever locked me out of one vehicle, once, with power door locks before that started to happen.
I'm gonna go ahead and say you weren't the ultimate noob because you fixed the situation on your own, right away.
I dont have door keys to two of my trucks and the single key for the ranger wont turn the door locks (its the right key so wtf?)
Half your key is right, I learned this while working at a hardware store in high school. IIRC the end half is for the door and the upper is for the ignition, so if you have a key for the door and one for the ignition any punk at the store that knows his a$$ from a hole in the ground sould be able to make you a single key
I dont have a door key at all for my F150 and F250....
The Ranger is this one that the key is all funky. The factory key wont work at all in the doors and the factory spare just barely works ing the pass door but not the drivers door...
If the door locks are original ford SHOULD be able to get the key code from the vin. The ranger may have had the ignition replaced at one point. Anyway i second Aune on the locksmith!
I have a set of keys attached to a hard drive magnet with a keyring and some electrical tape. I keep the magnet and keys under the truck in a place not easily seen. I will do the same for my car when I decide to stop being lazy and do it. I rarely get locked out of my automobile but it has happened at least twice before.
