I have a '99 PSD crew cab F350 with auto tranny. The overdrive button at tip of shift handle does not work - I need it to work since i pull a 30' fifth wheeler and a 3 horse slant fairly regularly. Any ideas - or steps to troubleshoot it? Thanks in advance.
The pushbutton to take truck out of overdrive does not work-it doesn't light up the "off" button or anything - so for towing purposes, I can't override it and keep it in drive.
Why do you want to tow in drive? For the lower mileage?
Ford says you can tow in overdrive as long as the transmission is not frequently shifting in and out of overdrive.
As for your problem, it is fairly common for the wires in the steering column to rub and break. When they do the OD button and light don't work. Look where the wheel tilts, that's the most common spot for the wires to break.
Living in western Montana - yes, while towing, there is a need to just leave it in drive instead of tranny kicking in and out of OD depending on terrain, etc. Is it difficult to replace this unit should I find wire problems?
