hi there iam new here ,im looking for a code scanner, for my 1994 explorer v6 4x4,can anybody help me with the right 1 for this suv, make and modle of the scanner would be helpful thank you ...........
Let's start by finding out what capabilities you are looking for from the tool. A "code reader" will just provide you with the diagnostic code. It will not provide you the ability to perform datastream monitoring of sensor values real time and may not even provide the ability to easily clear codes. You do not need a tool any more expensive than a paperclip to do this function yourself on your 1994.
A "scan tool" will provide you the ability to read and clear codes, access freeze frame data (which may not be implemented in your '94), and monitor some datastream parameters.
Also do you want something that will work on 1996 and newer vehicles (assuming you're in the US) as well? Do you need something that is able to access diagnostic codes for the transmission, ABS, and/or airbag systems? Do you have a target cost in mind?
I was aware of that but he asked for a scanner that would look after transmission live date/codes (his answer to Shorod), which are not available unless access to professional equipment.
That was why I suggested he use a search engine and investigate.. Philip
I would suggest you look at a used OTC Genisys (or one of the rebadged versions) or an Autel MaxiDAS DS708. These tools will work with OBD and OBD-2 as well as be able to access all the systems with the correct software.
The OTC is more pricey to update than the Autel, but the OTC has better customer support.
