So I start the truck this morning and go in while it warms up a bit (-19c)come out to find a puddle of fuel under it. Fuel drain O ring on the back of the fuel bowl let go. So I get parts and fix that. Go for a drive and sure enough I can get the clutch to slip around 2000 rpm in the top gears. Must have got fuel on it. No I didn't let it slip much. So my question is should I just take it easy and let the fuel burn off or go get a case of brakeclean and see what I can flush out. Or am I better off just putting a new cltch in it. This clutch has 50,000 miles on it and never gave my any signs of there being issues before this. Thanks for any input.
It was leaking between the drain valve housing and the fuel bowl. That filled the valley and drained fuel down the bellhousing. I saw some coming out bellow from what looked like in the bellhousing. Thats what got me to check the clutch
That happened to me a few years ago. It was from a broken fuel line that leaked down the back of the engine and soaked the clutch while I was driving in the mountains. The clutch began slipping and the longer I waited the worse it got. Finally found a good place to pull over and work on the truck. I fixed the fuel leak but i continued on my way and just took it easy on my clutch for the next few days and it cleaned up and worked well after the ordeal.
I got a bunch of fuel on my clutch when my FRX broke and it was slipping a lot. I just drove it around for a few days and revved up the motor every once in a while to make it slip more. After a few days, the fuel burned off and it was almost back to normal.
Problem I had was I developed a rough spot or something on my clutch and it would jerk when I went to take off. I had to start slipping the clutch when I took off. About 2 days of that and everything was back to normal. No problems since.
I have had the same problem before. What I did was poor some simple green in the valley so it would run back and on to the clutch let it set a few minutes then rinse with a garden hose. This helped me out with no future problems
I think if you wash it then go drive it nicely and get it warmed up you would be fine. With the temps I wouldn't spray water every were just in the valley.
