I bought a 1994 Mazda B4000 4x4 5spd. I took it in to a local mechanic and they told me that the A/C compressor is locking up. I attached a picture of what I see happening and I don't know if this is normal or not. Any help would be appreciated.
It is supposed to cycle in most of the settings except vent and off. IT does this to keep internal seals lubricated. If it is short cycling when using the a/c it may need a recharge. As long as the clutch isn't engaging and locking solidly in place so belt gets torn up it is running as it should.

That's good to know, thanks for the help man. This mechanic might have wanted money out of me because he was talking about converting the R12 system to R134 for $900. That's a quarter of what I paid for the truck. Thanks again!
I am not sure what year the switchover from R12 to R134 was done at factory. Should be a sticker stating recharge information around area of radiator. If your a/c clutch was actually locking up and not turning you could either replace the a/c compressor or clutch or remove compressor and install a idler pulley in it's place.

I appreciate the help. The truck is at the dealers mechanic where I bought it and they are checking things out. I'll definitely keep your info in mind for the future. Thanks!
