Picked up my 2000 v10 excursion today

I just picked up my 2000 v10 excursion limited 4x4 it has 104k miles on it. in all my triton v8 i have ran 5w20 on this one it calls for 5w30 should i just run 5w20 ? also what other things should i look for in this vehicle. It does have 4.30 gears in it. runs great. Looks like it could use a tstat doesnt get up to middle in the temp guage.

Congrats on the purchase. Not sure on the oil, you're in a cold climate? Read through the 'Read First' stuff for common issue on the Ex. Check out the V10 forum for common issues there. Give all the fluids a change and check to see if the spark plugs have ever been changed. If not, change 'um with ones from Ford. In the meantime, enjoy. My water temp stays low too.

Congrats - welcome to the madness! The switch to 5w20 happened after the 2000 model year - it actually varies a little bit by model of car/truck. My 03 calls for 5w20 but to the best of my knowledge there is no mechanical changes from the earlier ones to allow for the thinner oil. I know the heads changed to provide additional spark plug threads but haven't seen where they did anything else.

Do a search in here to tell what gears you have. Look on the door tag and on the rear end tags. Probably higher than 4:11.

If it calls for 10W30 then run the 10W30..... 104K miles is nothing.... like a new engine Have fun with her and post some pics.
